What Do People Do During Obon?
- Mukaebi / Okuribi

People build fires to welcome and send off the spirit.
In urban areas, they don’t do it now, but in some rural areas, they do.
- Grave Visits

Families visit and clean their ancestor’s graves, offering incense and prayers.
- Summer festival

Many towns have summer festivals during Obon.
People enjoy food stalls and dance the traditional Bon Odori dance.
Bon Odori is very easy to do, so if you visit a summer festival in Japan, try dancing with them.
