When should you not visit to Japan?
Here are 3 times you should not visit Japan.
- Golden Week (Late April – Early May)
- Obon (Around August 13–16)
- New Year Holiday (Late December – Early January)
1.Golden Week(Late April – Early May)

Golden Week is one of the longest long holidays.
Why avoid it?
- Bullet trains, flights, and hotels are packed
- Travel and accommodation prices surge
- Tourist spots are extremely crowded
2.Obon (Around August 13–16)

Obon is a Buddhist event to honor the spirits of ancestors.
Many Japanese travel to their hometowns.
Why avoid it?
- Domestic travel peaks, causing crowded public transport and ways
- Hotels can be hard to book
- It is extremely hot and humid—risk of heatstroke
3. New Year Holiday (Late December – Early January)

Japan’s most important holiday season.
People spend time with family, and many businesses close.
Why avoid it?
- Many restaurants and shops are closed
- Shrines and temples are packed for New Year’s visits (Hatsumode)
- Hotels and transport are heavily booked
If you really want to visit Japan at that time
If you really want to visit Japan during these periods, be aware of the following.
- Book hotels and tickets early
- Sightseeing to avoid crowded times(Often not crowded in the morning)
- Make plans that include congestion
