Difference Between Green Tea and Black Tea: What is Japanes Green Tea

Uncategorized

Hello, I am Taiki. I live in Japan.

In this article, I will explain about difference between green tea and black tea.

What Is Green Tea

Green tea is a common tea in Japan.

As the name suggests, it is green in color.

It has been a common drink in Japan for centuries.

I like it very much.

Differences in Manufacturing Process

The ingredients for both black tea and green tea are the same tea leaves.

The difference between black tea and green tea is in the manufacturing process.

Black tea is made by fermenting the tea leaves completely, while green tea is not fermented.

History

Tea was originally made in China.

Japan is close to China and Europe is far away.

Therefore, black tea was introduced to Europe, where the tea leaves fermented on the way to be imported.

In contrast, green tea was introduced to Japan because the tea leaves did not ferment.

Difference in Taste

Black tea is said to be rich and sweet.

Green tea is light, fresh taste. And astringency is a big part of it.

While black tea may contain sugar or milk, green tea is basically drunk straight.

Black tea is delicious, but I prefer green tea.

Final Thoughts

Which do you like green tea and black tea?

If you have never had green tea, give it a try!
